I seem to have responsibility for another cat

There's a large, fluffy, black-and-white cat who (sort of) lives in my yard. There's a cat-sized hole going under the fence in my backyard. On the other side of the fence is a strip of tangled trees, bushes and branches, with lots of birds, squirrels and probably other small wildlife there. I have bird feeders hanging from the trees, and I toss "squirrel food" on the ground every day, and it's possible that the cat (who one of my neighbours has dubbed "Sylvester") hangs out in my yard to catch birds, squirrels, mice or whatever else lives in the trees.

Anyway, the neighbour who told me that he's named Sylvester trapped him, got him neutered and vaccinated and also treated him for a severe ear mite infestation. But he's very feral. The rare times I see him, he takes off like a bat out of hell. The person who was feeding him regularly just passed away a few days ago, so I have taken responsibility for feeding Sylvester. He's probably never going to become tame, but I hope he will at least come eat the food I put out for him.
